Speaker: Scot Loyd, CPA, CGFM, CFE, CGMA, CNC
Each KMAAG presentation will cover topics relevant to Cities, Counties, Schools, and other Local Governments. Due to the success of our previously combined sessions, we’ve decided to combine them all again this year. (In the future, we may return to holding separate seminars for cities, counties, and school districts to allow for more focused discussions tailored to each entity type.)
With so many new faces in Kansas local governments, it’s important that we continue sharing the KMAAG message to our local government officials. Even if you are presenting your local government financial statement under GAAP, you are still required to follow KMAAG and certain sections of KMAAG. This ensures we’re all up to date with the framework and the key knowledge needed to navigate KMAAG successfully. Holding these combined sessions will give each government entity the attention it deserves while still fostering a broad understanding across all entities in Kansas.
This KMAAG seminar series qualifies those in attendance for 8 CPE units.
I always share that I have two requirements of attendees…
1. There are no dumb questions and 2. You have to learn at least one new thing. I almost always learn one new thing from each KMAAG session myself!
We are excited to announce that we’ve added Colby, KS, as a new KMAAG seminar site this year. Additionally, if things keep moving forward with our latest updates at the Loyd Group, LLC training center, we will hold a seminar in Galva, KS.
Key aspects of KMAAG training include:
- Linking your records to your government’s financial statement (including the notes) – covering cash, depository coverage, investments, receipts, expenditures, payroll and debt…and YES, KPERS unfunded liability disclosure. We try in a classroom setting to make this as practical as possible.
- Continuing study: REAL WORLD stories of Fraud that help you identify fraud risks in your government entity before it occurs. BE PROACTIVE! This will tie into the Federal Funding that has occurred in local governments over the last four years. As we get towards the end of ARPA (RESCUE) funding expenditures, we will explore opportunities to get all your ARPA funds shown as expended and will allow your local government to have some flexibility in using the funds into the future.
- How to split up duties in a smaller government environment so there are not weaknesses in segregation of duties!
- How do you spot a Material Misstatement in your financial statements?
- Group exercises dealing with practical scenarios in your government throughout the day! We will be bringing back the group exercise of trying to find the errors in the government of example KMAAG financial statement, notes, and schedules. Showing you some insights into spotting errors in your KMAAG statement, notes, and schedules.
- Since we have had several bank failures that have occurred in the last year, we will take time again to understand depository security, pledge security and how to make sure your bank deposits are protected and secured.
All seminars will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end no later than 4:31 p.m. A light breakfast will be provided at each seminar; we will break for lunch, not provided; there will be a light snack in the afternoon.
Reserve your spot now as seating is limited at each site!
I am doing the KMAAG Road Show across the state to help the local governments with travel. I hope you all take advantage of the KMAAG Seminars in your area. No one else in Kansas trains on KMAAG in Kansas!
